The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
