The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the award on mid-October as his third album his work was named the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in big venues backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

The musician is among several artists to donate his award prize money to charitable organizations.

When the band received the award in the year 1996 for their album the album, frontman the singer declared that the act would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her prize among a few charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, they donated their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group donated their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"The victory was ample," remarked singer Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had saved several grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The first in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
